Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa)

This native slab lumber is unusual for a conifer in that it tends to have deep figure around the knots, which show up nicely after finishing. It’s harder than pine and redwood, and still very easy to work. We have a constant supply of this wood as it is a common local tree. The live edge can often show the etched patterns of cambium beetles, which adds to it’s character as a salvaged wood. A light stain brings out subtle reddish tones, but it can be left it’s natural light brown. We sell cypress for between $8 and $10/board foot
